Under the banner of ZGT Overseas Foundation the “Dutch Medical Team” (cardiosurgical team members from the Netherlands) visited this hospital situated in the Nile Delta for the first time in 2010. The Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery was in great need of support because most qualified doctors had been transferred to the university hospital in the same city. Nevertheless, the pressure on the Board of Directors to perform open heart operations remained high. From 2010 to 2014 we performed annually successful missions but after 2014 we had to bring it to a halt due to the circumstances caused by the Arab Spring.
